Part 2 — Professional Ethics

Four standards: Competence, Confidentiality, Integrity, and Credibility. Together they bind IMA members and CMAs to ethical conduct.

To all IMA members and to CMAs/CMA candidates. Adherence is a condition of membership and certification, and violation can be grounds for disciplinary action.

IMA members have a responsibility to comply with and uphold the standards of Honesty, Fairness, Objectivity, and Responsibility, and to encourage others in their organization to do so.

Principles (Honesty, Fairness, Objectivity, Responsibility) are the broad values; the four standards (Competence, Confidentiality, Integrity, Credibility) are the specific, enforceable rules that operationalize those principles.

(1) Maintain an appropriate level of professional expertise by continually developing knowledge and skills; (2) perform duties in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, and technical standards; (3) provide decision-support information and recommendations that are accurate, clear, concise, and timely; (4) recognize and help manage risk.
