Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior

A stimulus that naturally and automatically triggers a response without prior learning (e.g., food causing salivation).

A previously neutral stimulus that, after pairing with the US, comes to elicit a conditioned response.

The initial stage of learning in which the CS-US association is established and the conditioned response begins to appear.

The weakening and eventual disappearance of the conditioned response when the CS is repeatedly presented without the US.

The reappearance of an extinguished conditioned response after a rest period, without further conditioning trials.

The tendency for stimuli similar to the CS to also elicit the conditioned response.
