Continuous Improvement for Existing Solutions

Use a dedicated logging/observability account. Stream CloudWatch Logs via subscription filters/cross-account observability and aggregate CloudTrail into a single S3 bucket (org trail). This isolates audit data, applies tighter access controls, and survives compromise of a workload account.

CloudWatch cross-account observability. Designate a monitoring account and link source accounts; the monitoring account sees their metrics, logs, and X-Ray traces without copying data per-account. Replaces ad-hoc cross-account dashboards.

CloudWatch Logs Insights — a purpose-built query language over log groups for ad-hoc analysis, dashboards, and saved queries. Best for interactive investigation; for long-term cheap retention/analytics, export to S3 and query with Athena.

Structured logs let Logs Insights and downstream tools filter/aggregate on fields without brittle regex, enable consistent correlation IDs, and reduce parsing cost. Improvement: emit JSON with standard keys (request ID, level, latency) instead of free-text lines.

CloudWatch alarm (or EventBridge rule) → EventBridge → SSM Automation document or Lambda. The alarm/event triggers a runbook that fixes the condition automatically (e.g., restart, replace, scale, open a ticket).
