It provides a single portfolio view to discover servers/applications, group them into applications, track migration progress across tools (MGN, DMS), and assess readiness — a central command center rather than a migration engine itself.

Migration Hub uses a single home Region per account to aggregate discovery and migration-tracking data; you choose it once and all imported/discovered data is consolidated there for the portfolio view.

It analyzes your application portfolio (binaries/source where available) and recommends migration and modernization strategies (e.g., rehost vs refactor, container/serverless options), prioritizing by transformation effort and business goals.

Agent-based discovery (the Discovery Agent installed on each server captures detailed system config, performance, running processes, and network connections) and agentless discovery (the Discovery Agentless Collector OVA in VMware vCenter captures VM inventory and performance without per-server agents).

When you need deep, per-process and network-connection (dependency) data, performance time-series, or your servers are physical/non-VMware. The agentless VMware collector only sees VM-level inventory and basic performance, not running processes or TCP dependencies.

To identify which servers/applications communicate so you migrate interdependent components together in the same wave, avoiding broken connections, latency from split tiers, or surprise dependencies during cutover.
