Cloud Concepts (Domain 1) (previous edition)

On-demand delivery of compute, storage, databases, and other IT resources over the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing, replacing the need to buy and maintain physical data centers.

Trade capital expense for variable expense; benefit from massive economies of scale; stop guessing capacity; increase speed and agility; stop spending money running data centers; go global in minutes.

Cloud shifts spending from capital expenditure (upfront purchase of servers/hardware) to operational expenditure (ongoing pay-as-you-go usage), improving cash flow and reducing risk.

IaaS provides fundamental building blocks (networking, compute, storage) such as EC2; PaaS removes infrastructure management so you focus on apps (e.g., Elastic Beanstalk); SaaS delivers a completed product run by the provider (e.g., AWS WorkMail).

Cloud-based (all-in on the cloud), on-premises/private cloud (using virtualization in your own data center), and hybrid (connecting cloud resources to on-premises infrastructure).

Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability. The framework helps build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient workloads.
