A2: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

The impeller (pump), the turbine, and the stator.

It is bolted to the flexplate and driven by the engine, throwing fluid outward to drive the turbine.

It receives fluid from the impeller and is splined to the transmission input shaft, transferring power into the gearbox.

It redirects returning fluid back into the impeller in the proper direction, multiplying torque during acceleration.

A one-way (overrunning) clutch in the stator, which holds the stator during multiplication and releases it at the coupling point.
