Paragraph Comprehension

It measures your ability to obtain and interpret information from short written passages, applying reading skills, not recalling vocabulary in isolation. You read a passage and answer questions about it.

Yes. Paragraph Comprehension is one of the four AFQT subtests, so it directly affects whether you qualify for enlistment.

The main idea is the central point the whole passage is about: the single most important thing the author wants you to understand. Every detail supports it.

Ask: 'What one point do all the sentences support?' Summarize the passage in a single sentence. The idea broad enough to cover every detail (but not broader) is the main idea.

A too-narrow choice covers only one detail; a too-broad choice goes beyond what the passage discusses. The right main idea matches the passage's scope exactly.

The topic is what the passage is about (a word or phrase, e.g., 'fire safety'). The main idea is the complete point the author makes about that topic (e.g., 'fire drills save lives').
